FishFlow screw pumps praised in New Zealand government report

In the recently published report Pathways to the Sea by the Waikato Regional Council (New Zealand), FishFlow Innovations’ Encased Archimedes Screw Pumps are highly praised as a fish-friendly solution for pumping stations.

A particularly noteworthy section appears in the case study titled “TCO of open versus encased Archimedes screw pump at Motukaraka pump station” (page 75). This section highlights not only the excellent fish-passage performance of our screw pumps, but also their long-term economic advantages. Despite a higher initial investment, the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) analysis shows that over an 80-year lifespan, our enclosed screw pumps are millions of dollars more cost-effective than traditional open screw pumps—thanks to their higher efficiency, lower maintenance requirements, and reduced energy consumption.

FishFlow’s screw pumps are cited in the report as among the most fish-friendly pumping solutions available, achieving a survival rate of 99–100% for migrating eels (tuna). As such, they contribute significantly to the restoration of fish migration and biodiversity in areas with water management infrastructure.

We are proud of this international recognition of our technology and remain committed to delivering sustainable, fish-friendly water management solutions worldwide.
